How can you describe a sunrise?
Do you like sunrises and sunsets? I do! But I know that as a writer it's difficult to describe them!
Here's the start of a poem by the American poet Emily Dickinson about a sunrise:
I'll tell you how the sun rose
A ribbon at a time
The steeple swam in amethyst
The news, like squirrels, ran...
She is so creative in the way she uses metaphors ("A Ribbon at a time" and "The Steeples swam in Amethyst").
As an English tutor, I love to help students with their descriptive and creative writing.
My Hartland English Guides distill over 30 years of teaching. I use their content in my online tutoring and they are available to purchase as ebooks.
