Why is there salt in the sea? - and other university interview questions!
A past Oxbridge interview question for biochemistry was “Why is there salt in the sea?”
What a great question!
It’s a real “wonder question” (see my recent article on learning models) – something we all know and yet something very few of us can actually explain.
I enjoy helping students prepare for Oxbridge interviews, as I will be doing today, because it’s a chance to see bright young minds grapple with areas of experience they’ve never before thought about.
It’s a chance for them to grow, and a chance for them to learn that it’s OK to do what I call “intellectual talk” – talking about ideas seriously because ideas matter.
My Nurture Your Uni Dream programme guides students from the start of Year 12 (and before!) to university interview, and it’s not too late for students to get interview tips if they are in Year 13, or to develop their portfolio of experiences for their personal statement and CV if they are in Year 12 or below.
